When you think that
you already seen all and here is nothing in the world to could
shock or surprise you, when you are sure that to voyage in-time
is possible in beautiful movies only, you must visit Georgia
and you make sure that, all of this is beside you and it to
you is still ahead of. Georgia is land of the first inhabitant
in Europe, the centers of ancient culture, hundreds of varieties
of endemic grapes – just few of the rich inheritance preserved
through the millennia. Now you have a chance to make sure in
this.
- Dmanisi – the site inhabited 1.7 million years ago by the
first European
- Mtskheta, Uplistsikhe, Vani – ancient towns along the Great
Silk Road
- Kakheti and Imereti – the cradle of wine-making
Day 1: Tbilisi
Meeting at airport Tbilisi and transfer to hotel. Accommodation.
Tbilisi sightseeing program - the Old and New Towns. The city
offers a great variety of sights, most of them very ancient.
All the places of interest in the Old Town are very close to
each other, within a few minutes’ walk. We start our visit to
Old Tbilisi from Metekhi Church, then walk up to the brick-domed
Sulphur Baths. From the Baths we head up the hill to visit Narikala
Fortress - one of the oldest fortifications in the city. Afterwards
we continue to the Synagogue, Sioni Cathedral and Anchiskhati
Church. This marks the end of the Old Town. After lunch we visit
the stunning treasuries of the Georgian State and Art Museums,
before taking a stroll along Rustaveli Avenue - the main street
in Tbilisi. Overnight in Tbilisi.
Day 2: Wine Trip to Kakheti
We travel to the famous wine-growing region of Kakheti. We visit
a farmer’s house to enjoy the hospitality of the local people
and sample some delicious home-made food and wine. Here we will
also see a three-century old wine cellar and taste wine straight
from the clay jars kept under the ground. Then we continue to
the wine factory to taste more Kakhetian wines. In the evening
we return to Tbilisi.
Day 3: Tbilisi – Dmanisi – Tbilisi
Today we drive to the medieval town of Dmanisi – the site of
the on-going excavations where the skull of the first inhabitant
in Europe was found (1.7 million years old). The skull is now
kept at the State Museum of Georgia in Tbilisi.
Day 4: Tbilisi – Mtskheta – Uplistsikhe – Kutaisi
We visit the ancient capital and religious centre of Georgia
- Mtskheta and its historic Jvari Church and Svetitskhoveli
Cathedral. Then we drive to Uplistsikhe Cave Town (1st millennium
BC) – an important point along the Great Silk Road. In the evening
we arrive in Kutaisi.
Day 5: Kutaisi –
Vani – Batumi
We visit Gelati Monastery and Academy and Bagrati Cathedral
ruins and head to the antique town of Vani. Unlike East Georgia
the summer temperatures are lower here with higher precipitation.
That’s why the grapes in Imereti are less sweat and mostly European-style
dry and semi-sweat wines are made from them. The wine is kept
traditionally in underground clay jars, but unlike Kakheti there
are no indoor wine-cellars here. We visit a local farmer’s house
to taste Imeretian white and red wines, more sour and less stronger
than Kakhetian ones. We have lunch in the outdoor wine-cellar
with traditional Imeretian food and wines. After afternoon we
travel to Ajara region on the Black Sea coast. In the evening
we arrive in Batumi.
Day 6: Batumi
We visit the State Museum of Ajara, the Botanical gardens and
Gonio Fortress. The afternoon is a chance enjoys the boulevard.
Overnight in Batumi.
Day 7-8: Batumi - Tbilisi
In the morning we drive to Tbilisi. Arrival in Tbilisi and accommodation
in the hotel. Free days in Tbilisi. You will have chance have
entertainments to yours mind. Overnight in Tbilisi.
Day 9: Departure
Transfer to the airport.
